An Enriching Internship Experience at Harvard Medical School’s primary teaching hospital

Third Year Molecular Biotechnology Students Ng Wei Ting and Evelyn Chen were really excited when they found out that they were selected for a three month internship at Boston Children’s Hospital. It was one of the most popular choices for internships because it is the primary teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School.

The two girls, who were attached to the Karp Family Research Laboratories at the hospital, worked on stem cell research from April to June 2013. It was a steep learning curve but they were happy to pick up lab techniques and procedures that were commonly used in America.

Here, they recount their internship experiences.

A Symphony of Different Worlds

The Sacred Heart Canossian College is an all-girls’ Catholic school established in Hong Kong in 1860. This year, secondary three & four symphony orchestra students from the Macau branch of the College participated in a joint concert programme with NYP’s Symphony Orchestra. I truly enjoyed the concert even though it was a small crowd.

Cast your net across StarHub’s outlets in a few years’ time and you may well catch a couple of fish. In case you were wondering, StarHub is not planning to renounce its business for a fishery. This is just one of the many fascinating concepts that the winning team of the StarHub Business Challenge 2013, Team Redux, presented during the final phase of the business competition, which was held at the School of Business Management (SBM) on 19 July 2013.

NYP graduate Audrey Foo has a simple yet powerful strategy for WorldSkills:  simply focus on the processes, and the final outcome would take care of itself.

Explained Audrey, “Throughout the competition, I did not dwell on whether or not I will eventually get the gold medal; instead, I focused on the tasks at hand, and concentrated on doing every task well.”

SIDM Graduates Turn Daydreaming into Reality

Zhen Siang at work at his very own company
School of Interactive & Digital Media (SIDM) students really do seem to have exciting career paths after graduation, don’t they? With job offers from top-notch design firms such as Pixar, LucasFilm Animations and Blue Sky Studios, they may very well be producing the next Ice Age movie!

Despite the attractive job opportunities in the industry, four SIDM graduates from the Diploma in Digital Media Design (Animation) chose the road less travelled – they decided to become their own bosses instead of being employees. Frandy Tan, Derwin Chan, Hui Zheng Siang and Lawrence Xiao have started their own animation and design company – Daydreams Studio.
