TEAM NYP Does Singapore Proud Again

Congratulations to Team NYP!
It was ‘double happiness’ for Team NYP – winning two gold medals at the prestigious WorldSkills Competition held in Leipzig, Germany from 2-7July 2013.

Audrey Foo Bao Yun and Jason Soh struck gold in the Health and Social Care and IT Network Systems Administration categories respectively. Audrey is also the recipient of the ‘Best of Nation’ award for being the top scorer for the Singapore team.

In addition, three NYP competitors won the Medallion of Excellence each for their good performance at the competition. They are: Eunice Chia Siew Peng (CNC Turning), Joey Ng Kai Woon (Graphic Design Technology) and Francis Goh Kim Swee (Mechanical Engineering Design-CAD).

Gold medallist Audrey Foo is a recent Diploma in Nursing graduate from NYP’s School of Health Sciences (SHS).  During her WorldSkills training, Audrey juggled her training with  her clinical attachment stint at the KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital (KKH).  She felt that her WorldSkills journey has deepened her knowledge in Nursing and helped her sharpen her clinical, communication and critical thinking skills. Throughout this period, Audrey’s family, close friends and coaches have been her pillars of strength.

This is the fourth consecutive win for NYP and Singapore since the Health and Social Care category (formerly known as Caring Category)  was introduced in 2007.

The other NYP gold medallist is Jason Soh, a third year Information Security student from NYP’s School of Information Technology (SIT).  Ever since Jason started his studies at NYP, he has had a thirst for new knowledge and always felt the need to learn more. Hence, participating in WorldSkills was ideal for Jason, because it allowed him to acquire new skills and experiences. He found his WorldSkills experience enjoyable and interesting, because of his passion and strong interest in networking.

Team Singapore was represented in 20 competition areas in this biennial skills competition, often dubbed the ‘Olympics’ of skills.  In total, the Singapore team won three golds, two silvers and 9 Medallions of Excellence.

NYP, which once again had the best haul, has always used the competition has both an educational challenge as well to benchmark itself against the best in the world. And, once again, our Innovative and Enterprising approach has proven to be successful.

Our competitors certainly enjoyed their WorldSkills experience.

Congratulations to all of our NYP participants in this competition.  We are so proud of you and your coaches/mentors!
